Public Speaking

Discussion Points:

 

1. What do you see in the scriptural examples of sermons above that might help us learn to be better public speakers?

2. What makes for a good or bad sermon or talk?

            a. Some of this will be subjective, but what is helpful to you in a public address?

            b. What do some speakers do that distracts or detracts from their lesson?

            c. What role do these play in spiritual talks: humor, illustration, story, personal example?

3. Discuss the various types of lessons and talks.

            a. Topical, Textual, Expository, Motivational

b. What type of lesson do you find most helpful?

            c. In what ways might these categories overlap?

            d. Why is it good for there to be a balance in our teaching approach?

4. Discuss the Wednesday invitation.

a. Is it necessary for us to offer the invitation at the end of each service?

b. How else might we utilize the short talks on Wed. besides reciting H, B, R, C, B?

5. Discuss the relative value of involving more men in speaking roles.

a. What are the advantages and disadvantages of involving more men in speaking?

b. In what ways might we better develop and utilize men in public speaking?

c. How might developing ourselves as speakers help us in other areas of life/service?

Are we willing to develop ourselves and stretch ourselves to contribute to the cause of Christ?
