A Father’s Relationship with His Children

Discussion Points:

 

1. What task has God given to fathers when it comes to the training of children?

a. How does a child’s relationship with his/her father dictate much about their future success and happiness in life?

b. Is it appropriate for a father to defer the teaching and training of the children to his wife in the name of providing for their needs?

2. Discuss a father’s approach and relationship to his children.

            a. What characteristics make for a good and effective father?

b. What characteristics make for a bad or ineffective father?

c. How do you personally define failure or success as a parent?

3. What should a father’s relationship be like with his children?

            a. How should being a Dad be different from being a buddy?

b. Does the authoritative relationship preclude friendship with your child?

c. How might a child’s view of their father be different from their view of their mother?

4. How can fathers be spiritual role models and mentors for their children?

a. Why do so many men fail to be spiritual role models for their kids?

b. How can the spiritual mentoring/role modeling continue after children are grown?

5. Discuss the grandfather-grandchild relationship, spiritually and practically.

Is our relationship with our children patterned after God’s relationship with His?

Do we view the spiritual needs of our kids as we view their physical needs
